Air India will start four weekly direct flights from Delhi to Osaka on February 2, 2027. Check out the flight schedule, timetables, and Japan visa changes.
Beginning February 2, 2027, Air India will begin four weekly nonstop flights between Delhi and Osaka, providing Indian travelers with a direct access to western Japan without passing via Tokyo or another Asian hub.
According to the airline's announcement, the new route to Kansai International Airport will make Air India the sole airline that offers direct flights between Delhi and Osaka. The service will operate on Boeing 787-8 aircraft with 18 lie-flat Business Class seats and 241 Economy Class seats.
Osaka will become Air India's second destination in Japan, following Tokyo Haneda. The airline now runs daily flights from Delhi to Tokyo Haneda, as well as four weekly flights from Mumbai.Air India opens Maharaja Lounge at Delhi Airport Terminal 3

Japan Visa Update: What Indian Travelers Should Know
The new flights come as Japan continues to welcome more Indian visitors. Travelers should also be aware of revisions to Japan's visa restrictions, which will take effect in 2026.
Japan will no longer issue separate transit visas from July 1, 2026. Indian passport holders who need to travel through Japanese immigration during a transit must examine which short-term visa is applicable to their itinerary.
Indian nationals continue to pay ₹500 for single and multiple-entry visas, excluding the VFS service cost. Eligible Indian residents may also apply for a Japan eVisa for short-term tourism via the specified application process; however, the eVisa does not cover all travel purposes.
Visa processing times can vary, so travelers should apply well in advance of their departure. A confirmed airline ticket does not guaranty visa approval.

More options for Japan trips.
According to Air India, more than 315,000 Indian visitors visited Japan in 2025, a 35% increase over 2024 and over 80% above pre-pandemic levels.
The Osaka route also makes multi-city vacations easier to organize. Instead of returning to the same airport, travelers can arrive in Osaka, see Kyoto and western Japan, and then fly to Tokyo to return to India. That flexibility is where the new service could be most valuable. Direct flights to Osaka provide Indian travelers with an additional option for exploring Japan outside of the city. The Best Places to Visit in Japan | VogueTravunited Take:
