Airport Fee Increase in Thailand: Foreign Travelers Will Pay 1,120 Baht starting on June 20

Starting on June 20, 2026, Thailand will raise its international airport departure fee by more than 50%. The increased fee, which will be applicable at six major airports, may increase travel expenses that have already been impacted by increases in gasoline surcharges.

Passengers from other countries will soon have to pay more to get out of Thailand.

According to a Bangkok Post article, Thailand would raise its international passenger service fee by almost 50% beginning on June 20. Six main airports run by Airports of Thailand (AOT) will be subject to the new cost.

What Is the International Departure Fee in Thailand?
Passengers departing Thailand via overseas routes are required to pay an international departure fee. When travelers purchase their tickets, the payment is typically included in the airfare.

Beginning on June 20, the cost at six major airports run by Airports of Thailand (AOT) would rise from 730 baht to 1,120 baht per passenger under the new system.Which Airports Are Impacted?

International travelers leaving from the following locations will be subject to the increased airport fee:
Airport Suvarnabhumi
Don Mueang International Airport
International Airport in Chiang Mai
Mae Fah Luang International Airport in Chiang Rai
International Airport in Phuket
Airport at Hat Yai International

Only travelers from other countries are impacted by the increase. There won't be any changes for domestic travelers.

The Reasons Behind Thailand's Airport Fee Increase
The report claims that AOT claims the additional funds will assist in funding airport development and new technological advancements. Projects that are planned include:
Passenger terminal expansion
Common Use Passenger Processing System (CUPPS) automation installation
Enhancing technology for airport security and safety

Since Thailand is still one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia, officials think the increased price won't have a significant impact on tourism demand.

Thailand claims that prices are still less than those in Singapore.
According to reports, AOT president Paweena Jariyathitipong stated that Thailand's revised airport cost would continue to be less than that of foreign visitors to Singapore, where airport-related expenses might total up to 1,600 baht.

Millions of foreign tourists continue to go to Thailand each year, mostly through Bangkok and well-known coastal cities like Phuket.

Fuel surcharges are also driving up airfare costs.

In response to an increase in the cost of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), airlines have also lately raised fuel surcharges. As a result, the cost of many foreign tickets has increased recently.

Travelers may notice an additional increase in total travel expenses when combined with Thailand's increased airport exit fee.

What Travelers Should Know About This
Depending on the airline and the date of buying, the majority of travelers' plane tickets will probably reflect the rise. However, those who intend to visit Thailand later this year might find that overseas departures have somewhat higher airfares.

The shift occurs as Thailand keeps making significant investments in airport infrastructure to manage rising visitor numbers and enhance the general traveler experience.
