Bahrain Requires Health Insurance for Permits to Live Dependently
Bahrain has increased the expense for sponsored families by requiring health insurance for dependents seeking new residency permits.
Bahrain has added a new expense and compliance requirement for families relocating to the country: dependents asking for a new residence permit must have current health insurance.
Dependents sponsored by residents or employees are subject to this rule. In the past, the primary residence permit applicant had to have health insurance, but dependents were exempt.

What Bahrain's New Regulation Demands
In order to comply with the recently implemented Bahraini resident permit requirements, the health insurance coverage needs to:
Be provided by a Bahraini insurance company with a license.
Remain in effect for the term of the dependent's residency permit.
Match the entire duration of the permit. For instance, a minimum of one year of current health insurance is required for a one-year residency permit.
The provision is being enforced by Bahrain’s Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) for new dependant residency permit applications.Yabancı Sağlık Sigortası (İkamet İzni Başvurusu İçin)
Things Foreigners and Travelers Should Know
Prior to qualifying for a new dependant residence visa, foreign nationals moving to Bahrain with spouses or children must now secure health insurance.
Employers who sponsor workers should account for the extra cost of insurance when calculating relocation and family sponsorship expenses.
Families should review the most recent LMRA standards before filing a renewal application because there is presently no official guidance regarding whether the same requirement applies to residence permit renewals.
The shift is consistent with a larger trend in Gulf immigration systems, where health insurance is becoming more closely linked to residency status rather than being considered an optional family expense.%71 إقبال الجمهور على الخدمات الإلكترونية و 29 % على الخدمات التقليدية - صحيفة الأيام البحرينيةTravunited Take:
Although the additional insurance cost is significant, we view this as a reasonable compliance change for families. Before submitting an application for dependent residency, applicants need set up qualified Bahraini insurance.
