Guyana Implements New Biometric Regulations Requiring In-Person Work Permit

Endorsement sit is no longer possible for foreign nationals to submit an authorized representative to finish the work permit endorsement process for Guyana. Attendance in person is now required for work permit endorsements due to a new biometric registration requirement.

This means that employment documentation and travel plans for talented foreign professionals working abroad need now account for an additional immigration office visit.

A Work Permit Endorsement: What Is It?
The formal immigration procedure that verifies a foreign national's authorization to work in a nation is known as a work permit endorsement. After approval, it is usually stamped or noted in the applicant's passport.

Explanation of Guyana's New Work Permit Endorsement Regulations
Although biometric registration has been implemented on a pilot basis by the Central Immigration Authority of Guyana, all work permit endorsement applications are already subject to the new requirement.Candidates now need to:
To obtain an endorsement for a work permit, physically visit the immigration office.
Throughout the procedure, finish the biometric registration.
Usually later that day, they return to pick up their passport.

These procedures can no longer be completed by authorized representatives on behalf of applicants.

Previous vs. Current Work Permit Endorsement Procedure
In the past, foreign workers' passports could be picked up and work permit endorsements completed by authorized representatives. Applicants must now physically show up for biometric registration and come back to pick up their passports.

For now, only work permits are allowed.
Currently, only endorsements for work permits are subject to the new biometric regulation. The current processes still apply to other immigration services, such as visa renewals and endorsements. Whether biometric registration would eventually be extended to other immigration categories has not been confirmed by the authorities.

Over the past few years, more immigration agencies have implemented biometric checks. It is evident that governments are prioritizing in-person candidate verification over relying just on documentation.

How Foreign Employees Should Act
Before scheduling appointments, all foreign workers including Indians who are seeking for or renewing work permits should consult their employer or immigration adviser.
Remember these points: Make plans to visit the immigration office in person.
Make time for a follow-up appointment to pick up your passport.
To prevent delays, check appointment schedules beforehand.

This is an additional step, in our opinion, but it also represents the worldwide trend toward biometric identification verification. If you intend to work abroad, budget for the extra trip and steer clear of last-minute surprises.
