Foreign travelers with an Indian e-Visa will soon have more options for entering the country, as India expands its e-Visa entry network to include 11 international ports.
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the expansion on August 10, which includes two airports and nine land ports. The government claims this brings the total number of international entry points for e-Visa users to 88.
Bhopal and Tirupati join India's e-Visa airports.
The two recently added airports are:
Bhopal Airport, Madhya Pradesh
Tirupati Airport, Andhra Pradesh
With these additions, India now has 37 airports where eligible foreign nationals can enter using an e-Visa.
The larger airport network comprises major gateways like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Goa, Kochi, Varanasi, and Vijayawada, as well as minor airports around the country.
Adding Bhopal and Tirupati to India's most popular tourist destinations may make e-Visa travel more accessible.
The larger expansion is at India’s land borders. The Ministry has listed these nine locations as newly added:

Attari (Road)
These crossings connect India with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Pakistan.
Agartala, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, and Dawki serve as border crossing points with Bangladesh. Jaigaon and Darranga connect to Bhutan, Moreh is on the Myanmar border, and Attari (Road) is the main road crossing between India and Pakistan.
That is important for travelers planning multi-country travels throughout South Asia, particularly those entering India overland rather than flying into Delhi or Mumbai.

Darranga is already mentioned among the existing land ports, although it also appears in the "Newly Added" category. The Ministry's announcement purports to name Darranga as one of the nine new land ports, despite the fact that the same area is already on the list.
For travelers, the practical point is straightforward: Darranga is already listed as an authorized e-Visa entry point on the official list. The administration has not explained the duplication in the materials provided.
India's e-Visa system now supports 172 nations.
In 2014, India announced its e-Visa option with Electronic Travel Authorization for people of 43 countries. It is now available to nationals from 172 countries.
The system has also grown beyond traditional tourism. India currently has 17 e-Visa subcategories, which include tourism, mountaineering, business, medical travel, study, transit, miscellaneous, and cruise group trips.
According to the Ministry, over 78% of visas issued by India are now electronic, with approximately 95% of e-Visa applications processed within 72 hours.
The pattern is clear: India is shifting more of its visa process online while increasing the number of locations where approved e-Visa travelers can enter.
