India Increases Cruise Tourism with New e-Group Visa for International Cruise Travelers.

India Increases Cruise Tourism with New e-Group Visa for International Cruise Travelers.
India is making it easier for overseas cruise passengers to visit the country by introducing a specialized e-Group Visit Visa (Cruise). The new facility is intended for international tourists arriving in India aboard cruise ships with set and predetermined itineraries.

What Is the New e-Group Visitor Visa?
The e-Group Visit Visa (Cruise) is accessible to nationals of the 172 countries that now qualify for India's e-Tourist visa. It enables eligible cruise passengers to enter India via any of 38 specified e-Visa-enabled seaports.

The Visa is:
Valid for thirty days.
Supports multiple entries.
Available for qualifying international cruise passengers.
Linked with a fixed and predetermined cruise itinerary

How Does the Application Process Work?
Unlike a regular individual visa application, the cruise operator or its authorized agency handles the group application.
The operator must submit passenger information via the approved portal or mobile application at least three days before the cruise liner arrives at its first Indian port. Passenger information such as names, nationalities, and passport numbers can be uploaded in bulk.
The visa QR code can subsequently be used at immigration checkpoints and to travel within India in accordance with the authorized cruise itinerary.

Who Can Use the Facility?
Citizens of the 172 countries eligible for India's e-Tourist visa can use the dedicated cruise e-group visa, subject to certain conditions.
This streamlines the process for cruise tourists whose route involves many Indian ports.Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) | India’s Largest Cruise Hub, Details & Travel Guide | India’s largest cruise terminal Mumbai | MICT Mumbai details,
Why is this important for Indian cruise tourism?
The shortened visa process may make Indian ports more appealing to international cruise companies. Easier immigration procedures can also help firms involved in cruise tourism, including:
Hotels and accommodations.
Restaurants
Local transportation operators
Tour Operators
Tourist attractions.
Port services
Local communities.

Cruise Bharat Mission Supports Growth
The new visa facility complements the Cruise Bharat Mission, which was launched in September 2024 to expand India's cruise tourism environment.
The purpose is to double cruise passenger traffic by 2029, with an emphasis on infrastructure, cruise terminals, destinations, technology, and efficient operations.
India's large coastline and network of waterways offer chances for ocean, coastal, river, and island cruise tourism.

What it Means for International Travelers
For eligible international tourists traveling in India by cruise ship, the new e-group visa can make the admission process easier. Instead of making separate preparations for passengers traveling on an approved cruise itinerary, operators can submit passenger information together using the specified system.
However, before departing, guests should clarify their eligibility and the cruise operator's visa procedures, as the facility is limited to specific ship itineraries and immigration restrictions.Security fears dog many foreign tourists | Hindustan Times
Travunited Take
India's new e-Group Visit Visa (Cruise) takes another step toward making cruise travel more accessible to overseas travelers. When combined with investments made under the Cruise Bharat Mission, the project has the potential to help India's cruise tourism sector grow and encourage new cruise itineraries that include Indian ports.
