Cambodia has tightened its e-Visa regulations and limited tourist admission at certain border locations in response to the recent conflict with Thailand. On July 28, 2025, both nations signed a truce, which has helped to defuse the crisis, although stability is still precarious.
Two e-Visa Land Crossings Are Closed in Cambodia
Travelers can avoid the inconvenience of long airport lines and embassy visits by using Cambodia's e-Visa, which is typically the quickest option to enter the country. However, recent security issues have compelled adjustments.
As of August 19, 2025, two well-known border crossings with Thailand are closed to e-Visa holders until further notice, according to the official Cambodian e-Visa portal:
Poipet (Banteay Meanchey Province) and Cham Yeam (Koh Kong Province)
This implies that e-Visa holders are temporarily unable to enter Cambodia through certain checkpoints.
Where to Enter Using an e-Visa for Cambodia
Currently, only the following airports and land crossings allow e-Visa holders to enter Cambodia:
Techo International Airport (KTI) in Phnom Penh
Airport at Siem Reap International (SAI)
Airport Sihanoukville International (KOS)
Bavet land crossing (Vietnamese border)
Land crossing at Tropaeng Kreal (border with Laos)
On September 8, 2025, the old Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) was completely replaced by the new Techo International Airport (KTI) in Phnom Penh. Now, all civil planes depart from KTI, which is completely eligible for entrance with an e-Visa.
It's still easier to leave Cambodia. Holders of e-Visas are able to depart through any currently operating official international checkpoint.
Travel Warnings and Safety Issues
Due to ongoing security concerns, many nations still advise against non-essential travel to Cambodia's border regions with Thailand. Although e-Visa restrictions are evident, it is yet unclear if travelers with visas issued by Cambodian embassies or consulates will be impacted by the same closures.
What Travelers Should Know About This
If you intend to travel to Cambodia using an e-Visa, stay within approved land borders with Vietnam and Laos as well as airports. Until further notice, do not plan overland travels from Thailand, particularly through Poipet or Cham Yeam.
Before leaving, check the official Cambodian e-Visa website and the travel advisory issued by your own government, as the situation is still subject to change.
