Indian Passport Fees Will Rise on July 1st: View the New Fees for PCC, Tatkal, and Fresh Services

As the MEA updates fees for new passports, Tatkal applications, PCCs, and lost passport replacements, passport fees in India will rise on July 1, 2026. View the updated list of fees.Beginning on July 1, 2026, obtaining a new Indian passport will cost more due to changes made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to passport fees in nearly all categories. Fresh passports, renewals, Tatkal applications, replacing lost or damaged passports, and a number of related services are all subject to the new charges.

The updated fees are covered by the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, which were announced on June 20. Applying before the new fees go into force could save you money if you intend to go abroad later this year.

New fees for Indian passports as of July 1

When applying for an adult passport, both adults and minors between the ages of 15 and 18 must pay:Service Normal Fee Tatkal Fee Rs 2,500 Rs 5,000 New or reissued 36-page passport

A 60-page passport can be issued for Rs 3,500 or Rs 6,000.

Anyone applying through the standard or expedited process will have to pay more up advance due to the changed pricing.Passports that are lost or damaged will cost a lot more.

Travelers who replace lost or damaged passports—an expense that many only learn about after an emergency—see the largest increase.

Normal Service Fee and Tatkal Fee

60-page passport replacement for Rs 6,000 or Rs 8,500

Passport Validity Doesn't Change

The validity of the passport is unaffected by the payments.

Passports for adults will be valid for ten years.

Fees for replacing lost or damaged passports have increased by up to ₹3,000, which is the biggest rise. Depending on the booklet size and processing method, new passport applications now cost an additional ₹1,000 to ₹2,000.

We think that first-time applicants can afford the additional expenses, but those who need to replace a lost passport would find it difficult. It makes sensible to apply before July 1 if your passport renewal is approaching.
