Due to escalating jet fuel prices, IndiGo would impose a fuel fee of ₹425 to ₹2,300 on airline tickets starting on March 14. Similar fees have also been implemented by Air India.
Starting on March 14, 2026, IndiGo passengers may notice a minor increase in ticket costs.
Following a dramatic increase in aviation fuel prices in recent weeks, the biggest airline in India has imposed a fuel tax on both domestic and international flights. The rise is attributed to the Middle East's persistent geopolitical unrest, which has increased the price of jet fuel globally.
Fuel IndiGo Surcharge: The Amount Travelers Will Pay
The airline claims that the extra cost will vary based on the flight's route and distance. There will be a surcharge for passengers that ranges from:

For longer routes, up to ₹2,300
The airline affirmed that the fee will be applied to all domestic and international tickets issued starting on March 14.

Why Fuel Charges Are Being Added by Airlines
One of the biggest operating expenses for any airline is Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), which is used extensively by airlines.
Fuel prices have increased globally due to recent tensions in the Middle East. Jet fuel prices have increased by over 85% in the region, according to industry figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
This causes an abrupt increase in operating expenses for airlines. One approach to partially offset that rise without boosting basic ticket prices right away is to implement a temporary fuel surcharge.
Additionally, Air India Group implemented a fuel surcharge.
IndiGo's action comes after the Air India group, which includes Air India Express, took same actions earlier this week. On March 12, 2026, the airline group unveiled a brand-new fuel surcharge.
