New Biometric Appointment Guidelines for Indian Citizens Applying for Canada Visas

New Biometric Appointment Guidelines for Indian Citizens Applying for Canada Visas

India's biometric appointment procedure has been revised by Canada. Applicants must use VFS Global's new AMS site starting on February 20, 2026, and uploading the Biometric Instruction Letter is required starting on February 23.

There is a minor but significant modification to the biometric appointment that you should be aware of if you are seeking for a Canadian visa from India.

The process for scheduling a biometric appointment at a Canada Visa Application Center will be altered as of February 21, 2026. Anyone who must provide a photo and fingerprints as part of the visa application procedure is impacted by the upgrade.

VFS Global's New Appointment System

VFS Global, which oversees Canada Visa Application Centers throughout India, handles biometric appointments in that country.

Up until now, candidates reserved their biometric enrollment slot via a different web form.

Bookings will move to a new online platform known as the Appointment Management System, or AMS, on February 21, 2026. The goal of this method is to simplify and streamline the procedure.

It is now required that you upload your biometric instruction letter.

Another important date needs to be kept in mind. Anyone scheduling a biometric appointment starting on February 23, 2026, will need to upload their Biometric Instruction Letter via the AMS site.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issues this letter upon the submission of your visa application and payment of the biometric cost.

The letter must be uploaded in the same format that you got it. No changes. Nothing has changed.

You won't be able to reserve your appointment without it.

What the New System Can Do for You
With the new AMS platform, you can:
Choose the time and date that you like.
Online biometric appointment rescheduling
If necessary, cancel your slot.
Directly upload your Biometric Instruction Letter.

In other words, instead of depending on an independent request procedure, you have more influence over your reservation. That flexibility can really help a lot of applications, particularly during the busiest travel times.

The Things That Have Not Changed
Here's something significant. Appointments for passport submission are still made using the same procedure. This change has no effect on the system or website used to submit a passport.

Only appointments for biometric enrollment are affected by this change.

Why This Is Important for Indian Citizens Seeking a Canada Visa

The majority of work permits, student permits, and temporary resident visas for Canada need biometrics. Your entire visa processing period may be slowed down if you miss or postpone your biometric appointment.

Use the new Appointment Management System after February 20, 2026, if you have received or anticipate receiving a Biometric Instruction Letter.

Yes, it is a technical update. However, if you are unaware of these little system modifications, they may cause you to become confused.

Make sure you are using the correct portal by checking the official VFS Global website again before making a reservation.

Although it may not be thrilling, staying current saves time and hassle when applying for visas.
