Obtaining a US visa? For Certain Indian Applicants, New B1/B2 Categories Appear

For some applicants, the US Embassy in India is testing new B1/B2 visa categories, adding additional checks that may have an impact on scheduling appointments and processing visas.

There is a minor but intriguing adjustment taking place behind the scenes if you intend to travel to the United States on a B1/B2 visa.

A new method of classifying visa applications seems to be being tested by the U.S. Embassy in India. Not everyone can see it, and it's not yet an official policy. However, one of our followers who chose Kolkata as their visa location informed us that they are now seeing a different set of categories when they apply.

What Are the B1/B2 Visa Categories Changing?
Up until today, getting a B1/B2 visa was quite simple. You made your appointment, completed the DS-160 form, and chose your type of visa.
Four new subcategories under B1/B2 are now visible to some applicants:Professionals in business (conditions apply)
Parents with legal status visiting their children (conditions apply)
General Travel & Tourism (for candidates who have never been turned down)
Refusal of a recent visa (within 24 months)

As of right now, these "conditions" are not formally explained. It is important to note that applicants often chose a single combination visa type under the B1/B2 Visa for:
Enterprise (B1)
Traveling and family visits (B2)

The subcategories that are already emerging business professionals, parents visiting children, etc.were not formally broken out.

Verifies Your Responses Again
This is when things start to get interesting. The system prompts you to verify that you have selected the correct category after you have entered your DS-160 number and selected a category. It also subtly warns you that your eligibility for a visa may be impacted if you give false or deceptive answers. What's Causing This?

Although there hasn't been an official declaration yet, the explanation is probably straightforward. Particularly in India, the U.S. visa system is grappling with high demand and lengthy wait times. This type of classification might be useful:
Sort candidates according to their backgrounds
Keep first-time applicants and those who have already been rejected apart.
expedite the scheduling of appointments
Assist embassies in effectively managing their workload
To put it briefly, it appears to be a data-driven strategy for managing large application volumes.

What This May Signify for Candidates
The distribution of appointments may alter if this trial spreads to other cities. For instance:
Candidates who have previously been rejected might be treated differently.
When parents see their children, they may be given priority or placed in different
groups.
A spotless travel record may become more crucial than it was previously.

Although none of this has been verified yet, the structure points to the possibility of a more divided system.Avoid attempting to manipulate the system.

This is an important aspect. The system explicitly advises candidates to provide truthful answers. And that's for a purpose.

In the past, a lot of people applying for US visas attempted to falsify their responses in order to receive interviews more quickly. In multiple instances, this resulted in:

Cancellations of appointments
There is a loss of visa fees.
Flagged profiles
Choose wisely and honestly if you come across these new categories.

Is This a Permanent Change?

As of right present, this appears to be a restricted test that is only accessible to specific candidates. Whether it will spread to other American consulates in India or throughout the world is still unknown. However, if it does, it might change how future B1/B2 visa applications are processed.

Final Thoughts
Although there hasn't been a significant revamp yet, this is a strong indication of where things are going. The U.S. visa application process is becoming more organized, data-driven, and potentially more discriminating.

Pay attention to these modifications if you plan to apply shortly. Above all, ensure that your application is correct from the beginning.
