Quebec Reopens Family Sponsorship Applications From July 2 With New Intake Rules

Quebec Reopens Family Sponsorship Applications From July 2 With New Intake Rules
On July 2, 2026, Quebec will reopen family sponsorship applications. There will be a phased application process and a new intake maximum of 15,700. Verify who is eligible to apply.

On July 2, 2026, Quebec's Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration (MIFI) will reopen its family sponsorship program, enabling families to reapply after the previous year's application cap was reached.

Between July 2, 2026, and July 2, 2028, Quebec will accept up to 15,700 sponsorship applications, providing Canadian citizens and permanent residents with an additional chance to sponsor qualified relatives for permanent residency.New Caps for Applications

There are two categories for the intake limit:
Spouses and common-law partners may submit up to 13,300 applications.
2,400 or more applications for
Children who are dependent, including those who are at least eighteen years old.
young
sters who are orphaned.
Adopted children.
requests to include family members in a sponsorship application that already exists.

Dependent children who are 18 years of age or older are now excluded from the intake cap, which is a positive move. These applications used to count toward the cap. This implies that Quebec is managing overall demand while placing more focus on maintaining close family ties.Waiting Time-Based Priority

MIFI has implemented a staggered intake method in place of opening applications on a first-come, first-served basis.

The date that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued their sponsor eligibility letter or acknowledgement of receipt will determine whether applicants are invited. Documents issued in 2024 will be the first in the process, which will proceed chronologically.

This strategy, which replaces online application rushes with lines intended to reward those who have already waited, is becoming more widespread across immigration programs.

Things Families Need to Know

The reopening gives all foreign nationals including Indians who are now citizens of Canada or permanent residents of Quebec an additional chance to sponsor qualified
Indian family members for permanent residency.
Additionally, applicants should keep in mind:
Applications must be mailed in.
Submissions made in person won't be accepted.
Before submitting an application, sponsors should review the tiered intake timetable.

Compared to a first-come, first-served approach, we think the new system is more equitable. You will have the best chance when your intake window opens if you have your eligibility documentation available in advance. There are still some family sponsorship categories that are not subject to the cap. Among them are:
