Starting on July 1, Air India will upgrade its Delhi-Melbourne flights with first class and Wi-Fi.

Before daily operations start in September, Air India will start operating its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER on flights from Delhi to Melbourne on July 1. The aircraft will have First Class, Wi-Fi, and additional premium seats.

Beginning on July 1st, passengers traveling between Delhi and Melbourne will have a completely different Air India experience. An refurbished Boeing 777-300ER with First Class, additional premium seats, onboard Wi-Fi, and an updated long-haul cabin will take the place of the airline's Boeing 787-8 on the route.

The move offers one of Air India's top international offerings to a route that is well-liked by families, business travelers, and students traveling to Australia. Larger Planes, More High-End Seats

The updated Boeing 777-300ER is set up with:
Eight suites in first class
Forty Business Class beds that are completely flat
280 seats in the economy class
Compared to the Boeing 787-8 currently flying the route, which has no First Class cabin and only 28 Business Class and 241 Economy seats, it is a significant improvement. Passengers wishing to upgrade their reservations or redeem loyalty points should find more seats thanks to the additional premium capacity.

What Travelers Can Anticipate
For long-haul passengers, the updated aircraft offers a number of benefits, such as:
First-rate private apartments with individualized service and lie-flat beds
Business Class seats that are completely flat and offer greater privacy
Wi-Fi access during the flight
Rejuvenated international and Indian dining selections with high-end drinks
An expanded in-flight entertainment collection with films, TV series, and musicThe long-haul improvements offered by Air India are no longer exclusive to its key routes. The airline is progressively expanding its enhanced service to more foreign locations, which indicates that competition for upscale travel to Australia is getting more intense.

Improved Experience Prior to Boarding
Air India's new Maharaja Lounge, which offers improved dining, seating, and pre-flight amenities prior to departure, will also be accessible to qualified First and Business Class travelers leaving from Delhi.More Flights to Melbourne From September

Air India currently operates four non-stop flights a week between Delhi and Melbourne. From 1 September 2026, the airline plans to increase the route to daily service.

The Delhi hub also gives Australian travellers and Indian passengers convenient onward connections to European cities including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Milan, and Zurich. Air India also operates non-stop flights between Delhi and Sydney with similar onward connections.

Why This Matters for Indian Travellers
For passengers flying from cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, or Kolkata, Delhi remains Air India’s primary gateway to Australia. The upgraded aircraft means travellers connecting through the capital can now book a more comfortable long-haul journey without relying on foreign carriers.Passengers will notice this useful improvement as soon as they board, in our opinion. I anticipate that Air India will become a better choice for Australia with the addition of First Class, Wi-Fi, and daily flights.
