Starting in 2027, the UK may cut the number of jobs on its Temporary Shortage List from 52 to 28. This is what the idea entails for those seeking a foreign skilled worker visa.
The UK's Temporary Shortage List (TSL) should be reduced from 52 jobs to just 28, according to the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC). If the idea is approved by the government, this might result in fewer options for skilled worker visas starting in 2027.
Although it is not yet a rule, this idea is worth considering for Indians who intend to relocate to the UK in search of mid-skilled employment. The UK government has not stated whether it would implement the suggestions or how it will deal with employees who are already enrolled in the system.
Fewer jobs, shorter eligibility period.
Every employment on the future Temporary Shortage List should only be eligible for 18 months, from January 1, 2027, to June 30, 2028, according to the MAC's Stage 2 evaluation, which was released on July 23. For the customary three years, none of the jobs were advised.
The proposed list adds eight new roles while retaining 20 occupations from the current interim list.

Which Jobs May Be Left Out?
The proposed list excludes certain jobs that are already eligible. This includes:
Business sales roles

Creative professions, including authors, writers, and photographers.
If the proposals are accepted, companies will no longer be able to sponsor many of these mid-skilled positions under the Skilled Worker route.
Why Foreign Workers Should Care About This
With thousands of people traveling to London, Manchester, and Birmingham each year, India continues to be one of the UK's leading suppliers of applications for skilled worker visas.
Although recent immigration rules often limit the Skilled Worker route to degree-level jobs, the Temporary Shortage List permits firms to sponsor people in RQF Level 3 to 5 occupations. Employers have limited opportunities to hire foreign workers for these roles if they are not on the list.
Throughout Europe, one pattern has emerged. While anticipating that companies will eventually train more local workers, governments are progressively limiting migrant routes to occupations supported by obvious labor shortages.

Nothing instantly changes.
The UK government must first declare when the updated Temporary Shortage List will go into effect and determine whether to adopt the MAC's recommendations. Additionally, it hasn't stated if there would be a transition phase.
Additionally, the report makes no recommendations for workers in Temporary Shortage List occupations who currently possess Skilled Worker visas. As long as they continue to meet the qualifying conditions, current sponsored workers are still able to extend their visas and be eligible for settlement under current immigration regulations.
