Three New B1/B2 Visa Procedures for Applicants Are Piloted by the US Consulate in Kolkata

Three New B1/B2 Visa Procedures for Applicants Are Piloted by the US Consulate in Kolkata

Parents, business travelers, and tourists can now schedule B1/B2 visa appointments more quickly thanks to experimental programs started by the US Consulate in Kolkata. During the application procedure, some candidates are also seeing new subcategories for visas.

You might be surprised to learn that you should apply through the US Consulate in Kolkata if you intend to apply for a US B1/B2 visa in India.

Currently, the consulate is conducting experimental programs that could expedite visa appointments for qualified applicants, including parents, business travelers, and legitimate tourists. The embassy seems to be exploring additional categories for B1/B2 visa applicants in addition to these activities.

Let's examine the adjustments the US Consulate is implementing in more detail and how you might profit from them.

1. Quicker Parental Visa Appointments Parents
50 years of age and older who intend to visit their children who are lawfully residents of the United States are the target of the largest change. For qualified applicants, the US Consulate is providing expedited visa interview appointments.

The following are covered by the new priority system:
parents who are fifty years of age or older
Visitors to children who are lawfully residents of the United States
Candidates having a verified and explicit reason for traveling

families with long-standing connections to the United States.Visa applicants should use the official U.S. visa website, U.S. Travel Docs India, to confirm their eligibility for the priority appointment program.

The goal of the action is to shorten wait times for family members who are traveling for legitimate reasons and have close family ties.

2. Reduced Wait Times for Those Seeking B1/B2 Visas
Another significant change is that, for some legitimate visitors and business travelers, the US Consulate in Kolkata now offers quicker processing and lower wait periods.

The consulate stated in a social media post that the effort prioritizes travelers who contribute to the development of commercial and tourist relations between India and the United States in order to promote "American economic priorities. People who are traveling for justifiable short-term reasons
Regular business travelers
Visitors with solid financial records
Candidates with prior foreign travel experience

3. Some People Get New B1/B2 Categories
The most intriguing yet unverified change is that some applicants who choose Kolkata as their visa location are allegedly seeing four new subcategories under the B1/B2 visa section.

The procedure was really simple up until now. Candidates made an appointment, completed the DS-160 form, and chose the B1/B2 visa category.

However, four new subcategories under B1/B2 are now visible to some applicants:
Professionals in business (conditions apply)
Parents with legal status visiting their children (conditions apply)
General Travel & Tourism (for candidates who have never been turned down)
Refusal of a recent visa (within 24 months)

There is currently no formal explanation of what these "conditions" entail. There has not yet been an official policy change.

The consulate has formally announced the first two developments, but the third change has not yet received an official update. These pilot programs are still in the trial phase and are currently exclusive to the Kolkata consulate.

The expansion of comparable initiatives to additional US consulates in India has not yet been confirmed.

We believe that this Kolkata pilot is worth investigating, particularly for parents and sincere travelers who have to wait a long time. It might greatly improve the practicality and efficiency of the US visa application procedure if it were to be implemented nationwide.
