Vietnam Revises Document Legalization Rules for Indian Travelers Since September 11

Vietnam Revises Document Legalization Rules for Indian Travelers Since September 11
Starting September 11, 2026, Vietnam will amend its document legalization criteria for Indian travelers. Apostille is required for all eligible Indian public documents.
Beginning September 11, 2026, Indian travelers using public documents in Vietnam will be subject to a new document authentication requirement.
Beginning this date, eligible Indian public documents submitted for use in Vietnam must include an Apostille issued by the appropriate Indian official. The Embassy of Vietnam in India would no longer accept consular legalization petitions for documents covered by the new process.Vietnam on arrival visa for Indians: A detailed guide
What is an apostille?
An apostille is an international certification that confirms the legitimacy of a document's official signature, seal, or stamp. It enables qualifying public papers to be accepted in foreign countries under the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. It does not check the document's content. What Indian Travelers Should Know
A valid Apostille allows qualified Indian public papers to be utilized in Vietnam without additional confirmation. Documents that are not in Vietnamese must have a notarized or certified Vietnamese translation.
The Embassy has also noted that some documents may still require consular legalization, so travelers should double-check the requirements for their specific document before submitting it.What is special about the Indian tourist group traveling to Ho Chi Minh City?
The New Process
Get the required Indian public document.
Obtain an Apostille from the authorized Indian government.
If the document is not in Vietnamese, obtain a notarized or certified Vietnamese translation.
Check to see if the document is an exception that requires consular legalization.
This is part of a larger trend toward Apostille-based document authentication, which eliminates the need for applicants to complete separate embassy legalization procedures.
For Indian students, workers, families, and enterprises dealing with Vietnamese authorities, the main adjustment is straightforward: first check the document type, then obtain the Apostille before traveling or submitting it in Vietnam.Braucht man ein Visum für Australien?
